Getting into the best-tools roundups

A short outreach routine that puts you in lists already ranking for your term.

Ongoing Medium Outreach

The best-tools lists ranking for your category already exist. Getting added to one is an email, not a campaign.

01

Find the roundups already ranking

Search your category term and note every list on the first two pages. Those are the only ones worth contacting.

02

Email the author, not the company

One specific reason your tool belongs in that list, referencing what the list is actually about. Two sentences.

03

Offer access, never money

A free lifetime account for review is normal and disclosed. Paying for a slot in an editorial list is a different thing and it eventually surfaces.

04

Follow up once, after two weeks

Then leave it. Authors update these lists on their own schedule, usually quarterly.

Watch out
  • Set expectations at six to twelve weeks between the email and the update going live.
  • A mass-sent template is obvious and gets you filtered. Ten specific emails beat two hundred generic ones.
